We're a Sheffield-based SEO agency with clients along the M1 corridor and across the UK.
The Luton market
Luton had about 225,000 residents at the 2021 Census, with estimates suggesting around 239,000 by 2024. With Dunstable and Houghton Regis across the M1, it forms one of the largest urban areas in the region. Many customers in those neighbouring towns search with their own town names.
The airport dominates the local economy. London Luton Airport, opened in 1938, is one of Britain's major airports. easyJet has been based there since it launched in 1995, and several other airlines and tour operators have long run operations from the airport. That brings a big market for aviation services, hospitality, parking, transport, logistics and staffing. The Luton DART, opened in 2023, links the airport to Luton Airport Parkway station, and three railway stations serve the town.
Manufacturing has a long history here. Luton was famous for hat-making from the 17th century, and Vauxhall built cars until 2002 and commercial vehicles until 2025. The University of Bedfordshire has two campuses in the town, including a large one in the centre.
Luton's neighbourhoods are distinct, from Bury Park's food and independent shops to residential Stopsley, Leagrave, Limbury, Marsh Farm and Farley Hill. Each behaves like its own local search market.
In search, Luton's difficulty swings widely: airport travel terms are fiercely fought, while many trades face far less pressure. Neighbourhood and airport-related B2B searches are often under-served.
How Luton customers search
- Airport-related searches. "Airport parking Luton", "hotel near Luton Airport", "taxi to Luton Airport" and "airport transfers" are high-volume, high-competition searches. Specific, well-optimised pages win.
- Aviation B2B. Suppliers to the airlines and the airport search for engineering, catering, cleaning, logistics and staffing services.
- Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Stopsley", "takeaway Bury Park" and "electrician Leagrave" reward strong local profiles and reviews.
- Cross-town searches. Customers in Dunstable and Houghton Regis search their own town names.
- Student demand. Lettings, food and services near the university campuses peak each September.
