From our base in Sheffield we look after clients across the country, including in Essex.
The Southend market
Southend-on-Sea had around 181,000 residents at the 2021 Census. It received city status in early 2022, presented in March that year in memory of the local MP Sir David Amess. The city stretches along the Thames Estuary from Leigh-on-Sea in the west through Westcliff and the centre to Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness in the east, with Prittlewell, Eastwood and Southchurch inland.
Tourism is a major industry. In 2019 more than 7.3 million day visitors spent over £308 million in the city, and around 254,000 overnight visitors added another £53 million. That year tourism supported more than 7,500 jobs, around 16% of employment. The pier, first opened in 1830 and served by its own railway, Adventure Island and the seafront draw visitors from London and across Essex, especially in summer.
The wider economy includes London Southend Airport, which brings travellers and aviation jobs, and Olympus, which has made medical equipment in the area since 1969. Many residents commute to London, on c2c trains into Fenchurch Street or Greater Anglia services into Liverpool Street.
In search, Southend's many neighbourhood names give local businesses plenty of specific terms to aim at, and seafront and Leigh searches tend to reward businesses that keep their profiles in good order.
How Southend customers search
- Seafront visitor searches. "Fish and chips Southend seafront", "things to do in Southend" and "parking near Adventure Island" are made in huge volumes on summer weekends.
- Leigh-on-Sea independents. "Seafood Leigh-on-Sea", "boutique Leigh Broadway" and "café Old Leigh" are local contests won by strong profiles and reviews.
- Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Westcliff", "plumber Thorpe Bay" and "garage Shoeburyness" reward businesses with complete profiles and local reviews.
- Commuter demand. London commuters search for local services in the evenings and at weekends.
- Airport-related searches. Travellers using London Southend Airport search for parking, taxis and hotels.
How we help Southend businesses rank
Win the summer seafront searches. For hospitality and attractions, we prepare content and profile updates before the season, so you're ranking when visitors start searching.
Map-pack visibility in your neighbourhood. Optimised profile, matching listings and reviews for Leigh, Westcliff, Thorpe Bay or wherever you are.
Neighbourhood-level content. If you serve several parts of the city, we create genuinely useful content for each rather than duplicated pages.
Commuter-friendly profiles. Clear opening hours, online booking and good reviews help you win busy commuters.
Technical health. Fast pages that work well on phones, with clean site structure.
Monthly reports. Each month we report rankings, calls, bookings and enquiries from Google, plus the plan ahead.
