We're a Sheffield-based SEO agency working with businesses across the UK, including the Highlands.
The Inverness market
Inverness itself had around 48,000 residents in 2020 estimates, and Greater Inverness about 65,000 in 2021. In the 2000s it was among the fastest-growing cities in Europe. Some southern neighbourhoods grew dramatically in the 2000s: Inshes and Slackbuie more than doubled between 2001 and 2012, and Milton of Leys grew by over 500%. Each of those communities has its own local search patterns.
As the Highland capital, Inverness is the main centre for healthcare, government and services across the north of Scotland. Raigmore Hospital is the main hospital for the entire Highland region. The Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise are both headquartered here, and NatureScot moved its head office to the city. The UHI Inverness campus, opened in 2015, was projected to contribute more than £50 million to the economy.
Tourism is huge. Loch Ness is on the doorstep, Culloden battlefield is just to the east, and the Caledonian Canal runs through the city. The North Coast 500, a 516-mile route launched in 2015, starts and finishes in Inverness. In its first two years, it was associated with a 26% rise in visitor numbers and business growth of up to 20% along the route. The airport, the A9, A82 and A96 and the Kessock Bridge make the city the gateway to the north.
In search, Inverness is a small city with a regional reach, so many local terms are less contested than in Scotland's big cities. Competition still varies by trade, and steady, focused work on your profile and pages is what moves you up.
How Inverness customers search
- Highland-wide service searches. People across the region search for Inverness specialists: solicitors, accountants, clinics, trades and retailers. They often travel a long way, so they research carefully.
- NC500 and Loch Ness visitors. "Hotels Inverness", "campsite near Loch Ness", "restaurants Inverness tonight" and "EV charging Inverness" are made from phones by people on the move.
- Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Inshes", "plumber Culloden" and "café Crown" reward strong local profiles and reviews.
- Seasonal peaks. Summer visitor demand dwarfs winter demand, so the timing of your SEO really matters.
- Public sector B2B. Suppliers to NHS Highland, the council and other public bodies target specialist searches and frameworks.
How we help Inverness businesses rank
Reach customers across the Highlands. We set up your Google Business Profile, service areas and content so customers from across the region can find you, with useful information for people travelling in.
Win visitor searches on the road. For hotels, restaurants, attractions and activity providers, we optimise for the mobile searches visitors make on the NC500 and around Loch Ness.
Map-pack visibility in the city. Accurate categories, services, photos and a steady stream of genuine reviews.
Plan around the season. We prepare content and profile updates before spring, so you're ranking strongly when the visitors arrive.
Technical health. Fast, light, mobile-first pages that load even on patchy rural signal.
Monthly reports. Each report sets out where you rank, the calls and bookings Google brought in, and the next steps.
