The Aberdeen market

Aberdeen City had around 232,000 residents in 2024 estimates, with a main urban area of about 199,000. The surrounding towns of Westhill, Inverurie and Stonehaven are in Aberdeenshire, a separate council. Many residents there search with their own town names, which matters if you serve them.

Energy dominates the economy. Since North Sea oil was discovered in 1969, and the first major find came in the Forties field in 1970, Aberdeen has been known as Europe's offshore oil capital. Decades of offshore work built up a deep base of engineering, subsea, inspection and safety firms. As North Sea output has fallen from its peak, many of those firms have turned towards renewables. The Energy Transition Zone, next to the redeveloped South Harbour, is a dedicated site for offshore wind manufacturing and clean energy businesses, and it received £17.3 million of UK Government funding in October 2025.

The universities are a big part of city life. The University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495, and Robert Gordon University together give the city a student share of the population well above the national average. The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, completed in 2019, has improved access around the city. The airport at Dyce serves the offshore helicopter and business travel markets, and P&J Live hosts major concerts and exhibitions.

In search, Aberdeen has a particular quirk: results can mix in pages about the Aberdeens in Maryland and South Dakota. Competition varies by sector, and specialist energy-sector searches tend to be high value with relatively few well-optimised suppliers.

How Aberdeen customers search

  • Energy supply chain B2B. Operators and contractors search for inspection, NDT, subsea, decommissioning, offshore wind, safety training and engineering services. Volumes are tiny but contract values are huge.
  • Energy transition services. Searches around hydrogen, carbon capture, offshore wind and retraining reflect the move into low-carbon work.
  • Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Rosemount", "plumber Bridge of Don" and "café Old Aberdeen" reward strong local profiles and reviews.
  • Aberdeenshire towns. Customers in Westhill, Inverurie and Stonehaven search their own town names, and businesses serving them need to show that clearly.
  • Student and event demand. Lettings, food and services near the universities, plus events at P&J Live, create predictable peaks.

How we help Aberdeen businesses rank

B2B SEO for energy buyers. We build capability pages around your certifications, safety record, equipment and project experience, then target the technical searches procurement teams and engineers make.

Position you for the transition. If you're moving into offshore wind, hydrogen or decommissioning, we create content that shows your capabilities in those areas, so buyers find you as their needs change.

Map-pack visibility in the city. Profile optimisation, consistent listings and a dependable review routine for your part of Aberdeen.

Cover Aberdeenshire properly. Useful content for each town you serve, not duplicated pages.

Clear UK signals. Consistent details and correct structured data keep you out of results for US Aberdeens.

Monthly reports. Each month you'll see your rankings, the enquiries Google sent you and the next steps.
