We're a Sheffield SEO agency with a lot of hospitality experience, and we work with businesses right along the Fylde coast.

The Blackpool market

Blackpool had about 141,000 residents at the 2021 Census, but its economy runs on visitors. In 2022 more than 20 million people came, contributing around £1.7 billion to the local economy and supporting more than 22,000 jobs. In 2023 Blackpool was named the nation's best-value holiday destination.

The landmarks need no introduction. Blackpool Tower stands 518 feet tall and opened in 1894. The Pleasure Beach dates from 1896. The Illuminations stretch 6.2 miles along the seafront with more than a million bulbs and extend the season well into autumn. The Winter Gardens, built in 1878, added a conference and exhibition centre in 2022, bringing in business events as well as leisure visitors. The tram system has run since 1885 and covers an 11-mile coastal route.

There's more to the economy than tourism. In 2016 the government gave 144 hectares of land around Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone status, to attract business investment beyond the visitor trade. That brings demand for construction, technical and professional services, as well as the usual local trades.

Blackpool's search market has a particular shape. Booking platforms and review sites compete hard for accommodation and attraction searches. Seasonal demand swings sharply. And the wider Fylde coast, including Lytham St Annes, Cleveleys, Fleetwood and Thornton, falls under separate councils with their own search patterns. Independent hotels and venues that lean entirely on third-party platforms pay commission on bookings they could often win directly.

How Blackpool visitors and residents search

  • Accommodation searches. "Family hotel Blackpool", "B&B near the Pleasure Beach" and "dog-friendly hotel Blackpool" are researched weeks ahead and again on arrival. Strong map visibility and your own optimised pages reduce your reliance on commission-based booking sites.
  • On-the-day visitor searches. "Fish and chips near me", "breakfast South Shore" and "bars near the Tower" are decided on phones in minutes.
  • Seasonal and event peaks. The Illuminations, bank holidays, conferences at the Winter Gardens and big shows create predictable spikes in demand.
  • Resident services. "Plumber Bispham", "dentist Marton" and "mechanic Layton" work like any other local market: profile strength, proximity and reviews.
  • Fylde coast searches. Customers in Lytham St Annes, Cleveleys and Fleetwood often search their own town name, not "Blackpool".

How we help Blackpool businesses get booked

Win more direct bookings. For hotels and guest houses, we optimise your Google Business Profile and your own website to rank for the specific searches you can win. Think family stays, dog-friendly, near the Pleasure Beach. You'll take more bookings directly, without the commission.

Map-pack visibility on the Promenade. For food, drink and attractions, we focus on photos, menus, opening hours and a steady stream of reviews, because those decide where visitors go.

Plan around the season. We schedule content and profile updates ahead of the Illuminations, bank holidays and major events, so you're ranking when demand peaks, not catching up afterwards.

Cover the Fylde coast properly. If you serve Lytham St Annes, Cleveleys or Fleetwood, we create useful content for each area rather than thin duplicate pages.

Technical SEO for booking sites. Fast mobile pages, clean structure and correct structured data, including hotel and event schema where it applies.

Monthly reports tied to bookings. You'll see calls, direct bookings and enquiries from Google, alongside your rankings.

REYTFEST, Rotherham. An event website optimised to rank before the festival and built to stay fast when traffic surges. Blackpool's attractions and event venues face the same challenge every peak weekend. Read the REYTFEST case study.
