We're an SEO agency based in Sheffield, working with businesses across the North of England.

Newcastle's market at a glance

Newcastle had about 300,200 residents at the 2021 Census and sits at the heart of Tyneside, the most populous urban area in the North East. Gateshead faces it across the river. For customers the two operate as one place, and Google often treats them that way too, which matters if your business sits near the boundary.

It's the North East's main commercial centre, and its flagship regeneration site is Newcastle Helix, a 24-acre former brewery site turned into a science and innovation quarter. In 2018 Newcastle University described it as a £350 million scheme, and it's where you'll find the university's Urban Sciences Building and the national innovation centres for data and ageing. Two universities, Newcastle and Northumbria, keep the city young and busy, and the International Centre for Life anchors a strong life sciences sector.

The commercial centre is distinctive. Eldon Square, a large covered shopping centre, sits right at its heart. In 2004 Northumberland Street was ranked the most expensive shopping street for rent outside London. Grainger Town holds the city's classical streets and much of its professional services sector. Nightlife is a big part of the city's economy and identity, centred on the Quayside, the Bigg Market and the Ouseburn's independent venues.

There's a search quirk too. There's a large Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, and Australian pages chasing the same "Newcastle" terms can surface in UK results. Clear UK location signals help Google know which one you mean.

How Newcastle customers search

  • Food, drink and nightlife. "Cocktail bar Quayside", "brunch Jesmond" and "live music Ouseburn" are decided in the map pack, often on the night. Photos, opening hours and fresh reviews matter most.
  • Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Gosforth", "plumber Heaton" and "physio Fenham" reward businesses with a well-optimised profile and steady reviews from local customers.
  • Professional services in the centre. Legal, financial and consultancy searches around Grainger Town and the business districts are competitive and trust-led.
  • Student-cycle demand. Lettings, takeaways, gyms and services near the universities spike at the start of each term and around graduation.
  • Tech and life sciences B2B. Firms selling into the Helix and the digital and health sectors need visibility for specialist, low-volume searches.

How we help Newcastle businesses rank

Own your neighbourhood first. We optimise your Google Business Profile for where you actually trade, align your details across directories and build a dependable flow of genuine reviews. That's the foundation of map-pack visibility.

Handle the Newcastle–Gateshead overlap. If your customers come from both sides of the river, we make sure your profile, service areas and content reflect that clearly, without duplicated pages.

Content that answers real local questions. We write service pages and guides around the questions Newcastle customers actually ask, not generic copy. That builds trust with readers and relevance with Google.

Nightlife and hospitality focus. For bars, restaurants and venues, we concentrate on menus, events, photos, opening hours and review momentum, so you appear when people decide where to go.

Keep you in UK results. A full UK address, consistent citations and correct structured data help Google separate you from Newcastle, NSW.

Clear monthly reports. Rankings, calls, bookings and enquiries from Google, with next steps.

Our SEO services and local SEO pages describe each part of the method in full.

Where we work in Newcastle

We work with businesses on the Quayside, in Grainger Town and around Eldon Square, and in the Ouseburn valley. Our coverage includes the residential neighbourhoods of Jesmond, Gosforth, Heaton, Byker, Fenham and Kenton. We also support businesses just across the river in Gateshead whose customers cross the Tyne. Most of our North East work runs through video calls and clear written reporting, and we'll travel up when it's useful.

For businesses trading more widely in the North East, see SEO in Sunderland and SEO in Middlesbrough.
