What Middlesbrough's market looks like
Middlesbrough's built-up area had about 148,000 residents at the 2021 Census, and the borough an estimated 156,000 in 2024. It sits at the heart of the Teesside conurbation, alongside Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar, with Darlington just to the west, all within the Tees Valley Combined Authority. For local search, that means customers move easily between towns, and so do your competitors.
Heavy industry has shaped the economy for generations. Teesport is one of the UK's major ports, and Wilton International, a former ICI site, has long been a centre for chemicals and processing. Teesworks occupies the site of the Redcar steelworks, which closed in 2015, and the combined authority has described it as the UK's largest industrial zone. Together they create steady demand for engineering, construction, safety, logistics, recruitment and maintenance services.
Digital is the town's other strength. In May 2025 the combined authority counted some 630 digital businesses in Middlesbrough, with the Boho X building at the heart of its digital quarter and games studios such as Double Eleven and Radical Forge among them. Teesside University, which had around 20,000 students in 2018, supplies much of the local talent.
Middlesbrough has its own identity too. There's the Grade II* listed Transporter Bridge of 1911, the Riverside Stadium and, of course, the chicken parmo, a local invention that keeps a big takeaway trade busy.
How tough local search is depends on the trade. Takeaways and home services tend to be crowded, while many specialist and industrial terms are contested far less. In both, steady and focused work is what moves a business up the map pack.
How Teesside customers search
- Trades and home services. "Roofer Middlesbrough", "electrician Marton" and "boiler repair Acklam" are mobile-first searches decided by the map pack, reviews and response times.
- Takeaways and hospitality. "Best parmo Middlesbrough" or "takeaway near me" are fiercely competitive and won by businesses with strong profiles, menus and lots of recent reviews.
- Industrial B2B. Contractors and suppliers to Teesworks, Teesport and Wilton target specialist searches: fabrication, scaffolding, inspection, NDT, safety training and plant hire.
- Cross-town searches. Customers in Stockton, Redcar and Guisborough often search their own town name. If you serve them, your site needs to say so clearly and usefully.
- Student and graduate demand. Lettings, food, fitness and services near the university peak at the start of each term.
How we help Middlesbrough businesses win more work
Map-pack visibility where your customers are. We optimise your Google Business Profile, align your business details across directories and build a steady flow of genuine reviews. That's what wins the local three-pack.
B2B pages for the industrial economy. We create capability pages that show your accreditations, safety credentials, equipment and sectors served. Then we target the specialist searches procurement teams and site managers use. One contract can transform a year.
Cover Teesside properly, without spam. If you work in Stockton, Redcar and Darlington as well, we build genuinely useful pages for each, with real projects and local detail. No copy-paste pages with the town name swapped.
Win the food and takeaway battle. For restaurants and takeaways, we focus on the details that drive orders: menus, photos, opening hours, delivery areas and review momentum.
Technical foundations. Fast mobile pages, clean site structure, proper indexing and structured data, so Google can trust and rank your site.
Monthly reporting tied to work won. Each month you'll see calls, quote requests and enquiries from Google, not just rankings.

Where we work across Middlesbrough and Teesside
We work with businesses in Middlesbrough town centre and Middlehaven, and in the southern suburbs of Linthorpe, Acklam, Marton, Nunthorpe and Coulby Newham. We also cover North Ormesby and Hemlington. Across Teesside we serve firms in Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar and Darlington. We work with North East clients through video calls and clear written reporting, and we'll come in person when it's useful.
