We're a Sheffield-based SEO agency, and the M1 puts Leicester within easy reach.
The Leicester market
Leicester had about 368,600 residents at the 2021 Census, up 11.8% on 2011 and well ahead of the England average of 6.6%, and its urban area held about 509,000. It's also one of the UK's most diverse cities: in 2021, 43.4% of residents identified as Asian, 40.9% as White and 7.8% as Black. For many businesses that means customers searching in more than one language and with different expectations.
Leicester has one of the largest economies in the East Midlands. Next has long had its head office at Enderby, just outside the city, and Dunelm, Shoe Zone, Topps Tiles and Everards are among the other well-known names with Leicestershire roots. Food production has deep roots too: Walkers has made crisps in Leicester since 1948, with a major factory at Beaumont Leys, and Samworth Brothers is a long-established local food manufacturer. Space Park Leicester opened in 2022, and during its first year more than 20 organisations, including Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Northrop Grumman, were based there. Over that year it generated around £89 million in GVA and supported more than 600 jobs.
Culture gives the city a strong identity. The Diwali celebrations on the Golden Mile are among the largest outside the Indian subcontinent. Richard III was reburied in Leicester Cathedral in 2015 after his remains were found under a city car park. Leicester was named the UK's Greatest Sporting City in 2016, the year Leicester City won the Premier League.
In search, broad Leicester terms draw plenty of competition. Neighbourhood, specialist and community-specific searches tend to be easier ground for local businesses willing to put in steady work.
How Leicester customers search
- Community and cultural searches. Wedding wear, jewellery, catering, events and specialist food shops along Belgrave Road and the Golden Mile serve customers from across the UK. Many search with specific product and cultural terms.
- Neighbourhood services. "Dentist Stoneygate", "café Clarendon Park" and "builder Oadby" reward strong local profiles and reviews from nearby customers.
- Student demand. With two universities, lettings, takeaways and services near campus peak at the start of each term.
- Space and engineering B2B. Suppliers to Space Park and the wider engineering base target highly technical, specialist searches.
- Seasonal peaks. Diwali, Christmas and major sporting events create predictable demand spikes for food, retail and hospitality.
How we help Leicester businesses grow
Map-pack visibility in your neighbourhood. We optimise your Google Business Profile, align directory listings and build a steady flow of genuine reviews.
Content for customers who search in more than one language. Where there's real search demand, we plan properly structured pages in additional languages, so Google can match you with customers searching in their first language.
National reach for specialist retailers. For businesses on the Golden Mile and elsewhere that serve customers nationwide, we combine local visibility with product and category SEO for online sales.
Plan around Diwali and other peaks. We prepare content and profile updates weeks ahead of the biggest dates, so you're ranking when demand rises.
B2B SEO for space and engineering. We build capability pages around certifications, expertise and sector experience, and target the searches engineers and procurement teams make.
Monthly reporting. Rankings, calls, enquiries and sales from Google, with next steps.
There's more on each of these on our SEO services and local SEO pages.
