We're a Sheffield-based SEO agency working with clients across the UK, including Northern Ireland.

The Belfast market

Belfast had around 352,000 residents in 2024 estimates, and the metropolitan area about 704,000 at the 2021 Census, which takes in Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Holywood and Bangor. For local search, those surrounding towns are separate markets, and many customers search with their own town's name.

The economy has changed dramatically. HM Treasury has identified Belfast as a key fintech hub, and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies at Queen's University has anchored a strong cybersecurity cluster since 2004. Film and television have grown into a major sector. Titanic Studios and Belfast Harbour Studios together offer around 226,000 square feet of studio space, Game of Thrones was filmed here, and the screen sector contributed about £330 million to Northern Ireland's economy between 2018 and 2023. Aircraft have been built in the city since 1936, when Short & Harland opened its factory, and missile systems are made at the Thales site that grew out of Shorts' missile business.

The city's quarters each have a distinct character: the Cathedral Quarter's bars and venues, the Titanic Quarter's attractions and tech businesses, the Linen Quarter's offices and hotels, and the Gaeltacht Quarter on the Falls Road. Residential neighbourhoods such as the Lisburn Road, Botanic, Malone, the Ormeau Road and Holywood Road have their own high streets. In September 2024, the £340 million Belfast Grand Central Station opened, replacing the Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street. It opened as the largest integrated transport hub on the island of Ireland.

In search, Belfast is Northern Ireland's biggest market, so broad city terms are hard-fought and the difficulty shifts from sector to sector. There's also a Belfast in Maine. Cross-border and specialist searches are where many local businesses can stand out.

How Belfast customers search

  • Quarter and neighbourhood searches. "Cocktail bar Cathedral Quarter", "brunch Lisburn Road", "dentist Ormeau Road" and "café Ballyhackamore" reward strong local profiles and reviews.
  • Visitor searches. People visiting Titanic Belfast, the murals and Game of Thrones locations search for tours, food and accommodation.
  • Cross-border searches. Customers in the Republic search on Google.ie, often in euros and with Irish place names. If you sell to them, your site needs to reflect that.
  • Tech, cyber and fintech B2B. Specialist firms compete for clients across the UK, Ireland and beyond.
  • Film, TV and creative services. Production companies need crews, equipment, locations, catering and accommodation, often at short notice.

How we help Belfast businesses rank

Decide your markets, then target each one. We help you work out whether you're selling locally, across the UK, into the Republic or all three. Then we set up your site and content to rank in each, including correct language and region tagging where it's needed.

Map-pack visibility in your quarter. Your Google profile, listings and reviews all pointing clearly at the part of Belfast you serve.

Cover the metropolitan towns properly. If you serve Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Holywood or Bangor, we write useful content for each rather than thin copies.

B2B SEO for tech and specialist firms. Capability, case study and expertise content that reaches buyers wherever they are.

Technical health. Fast, mobile-friendly, crawlable sites with correct structured data.

Monthly reports. Each month we report your rankings, calls and enquiries from Google, and what's planned next.
